Ian Vickers

Australian born, Ian started his working life and quest for adventure serving in an infantry regiment in the British army, after five years service followed by a year hitch hiking around Europe he pursued a career in video production which saw him return back to Australia, after working and living in Sydney for nearly ten years Ian's love of the outdoors and desire for a greater challenge in life led him to Darwin in 2000.  After arriving in the Top End of Australia Ian worked passionately as a tour guide conducting camping tours to remote areas of the Northern Territory.  In 2007 he went back to university and now works at the Royal Darwin Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department.

Between careers Ian has worked as a cycle courier in Sydney, a commercial barramundi fisherman in Darwin, a sea-cucumber diver/harvester off the Great Barrier Reef and as a recreational divemaster off the islands in the gulf of Thailand.

Ian is an avid bush walker, loving nothing more than finding himself in the most remote parts of the country immersed in the elements. A keen cyclist, having ridden from Darwin to Townsville solo in 2003, a journey of over two and a half thousand kilometres during the hottest time of the year with the majority of riding being on corrugated gravel roads.  He has a zest for life, a disturbingly positive outlook and loves nothing more than a good physical and mental challenge.
